Industrial Relations Victoria

Theme: Developing winning organisational cultures

In 2008, Industrial Relations Victoria (IRV), a division of the State Department of Innovation, Industry and Regional Development, had added a large group of programs and teams from another department to its portfolio.  IRV management wanted to build an inclusive and positive culture around the new structure as quickly as possible by engaging everyone in strategic conversations about the new organisation.

Christopher Shen Consulting was able to facilitate by assisting in the development of a Team Engagement and Business Planning Day.  Key goals for the day included identifying new opportunities and synergies for the expanded division, the mission of key leadership groups and the type of culture that would help the groups achieve their goals.

Particularly useful was the conducting of a Leadership Panel.  Through a facilitator-led discussion, leaders across the division were asked questions about risk, direction and values by staff. This provided opportunities for positive examination of issues that often remain unspoken or ignored, but which are powerful in developing team performance.
