Case Study - Industrial Relations Victoria

Industrial Relations Victoria (IRV), a division of the State Department of Innovation, Industry and Regional Development, had recently added a large group of programs and teams from another department to its portfolio.  IRV management wanted to build an inclusive and positive culture around the new structure as quickly as possible by engaging everyone in strategic conversations about the new organisation.

Christopher Shen Consulting was able to facilitate by assisting in the development of a Team Engagement and Business Planning Day.  Key goals for the day included identifying new opportunities for and synergies for the expanded IRV, the mission of key leadership groups in the division and the type of culture that would help the groups achieve their goals.

Particularly useful was the conducting of a Leadership Panel.  Through a facilitator-led discussion, leaders across the division were asked questions about risk, direction and values by staff. This provided opportunities for positive examination of issues that often remain unspoken or ignored, but which are powerful in developing team performance.

Case Study - World Vision Australia

World Vision is Australia’s largest overseas aid and humanitarian organisation. As well as providing relief in emergency situations, World Vision works on long-term development projects with local communities to address the causes of poverty and help them become self-sufficient.

Supported by World Vision, the Vision Generation (VGen) is a national movement of young Australians whose mission is to inspire, educate and empower young people in the fight against global poverty and injustice. It is run by young people for young people.

Christopher Shen Consulting was engaged by World Vision Australia to provide an expert leadership development program to develop the leadership capability and expertise of VGen Executive members.

VGen Executive members examined and developed their understanding of leading, managing and developing people, as well as enjoying an engaging, fun and interactive experience.

CSC was delighted to partner with the committed and passionate leaders of VGen, and World Vision Australia.

Case Study - Sport Education Victoria

Sport Education Victoria supports Victorian State Sporting Associations and Victorian based National Sporting Organisations in the development and delivery of quality coaching, official and administrator education.  Sport Education Victoria achieves this by providing assistance to sporting organisations in developing and implementing short and long term education program strategies, in line with national policies.

For Sport Education Victoria, Christopher Shen Consulting was engaged to create the SportScope Profiler - an innovative tool to increase volunteerism in officiating, coaching, and administration of grass roots sport. CSC developed and substantiated an instrument that identifies the roles to which volunteers are most likely suited.  Specifically, this instrument explores the underlying motives, preferences, and inclinations of respondents - and indeed uncovers characteristics that individuals do not even recognise in themselves but nevertheless affects their enjoyment and motivation in various roles.

After respondents complete this instrument they receive a report that specifies whether they are suited to a role as a referee, official, or coach.  This report also stipulates some activities or behaviours these respondents could undertake to enhance their motivation and performance in recreational, vocational, and social settings.

Sport Education Victoria is confident that the SportScope Profiler will enhance and increase the participation of volunteers in Victorian sport.
